Cardiovascular Treatments at Hackensack Meridian Health
As a leading provider of heart care in the tri-state area, our heart specialists offer these treatments and more:
Atrial ablation: Doctors perform this special procedure to treat arrhythmia, especially atrial fibrillation (AFib), in order to restore a proper heart rate.
Pacemaker implantation: Our Pacemaker Center is one of the busiest centers in the country in terms of performing pacemaker implantation procedures for people diagnosed with arrhythmia.
Heart catheterization: A procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions such as coronary artery disease (clogged heart arteries), heart valve disease, and congestive heart failure. Angioplasty, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and stent implantation are performed as part of cardiac catheterization.
Coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG): Also known as bypass surgery, surgeons perform this intervention to bypass plaque buildup on the artery walls to improve blood flow to the heart, which helps prevent angina, heart attack, and other conditions.
Heart valve replacement or valve repair: Heart valve disease may make it necessary for cardiovascular surgeons to perform heart surgery to repair or replace damaged heart valves, which allows valves to effectively direct blood flow through the heart.
Left ventricular assist device (LVAD): This is a type of congestive heart failure treatment offered to people with advanced heart failure. LVAD involves implanting a mechanical pump that allows the heart’s left ventricle to pump correctly. Hackensack Meridian Health’s Heart Failure Program is one of a select few to perform this procedure.
Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT): CRT involves implanting special pacemakers and defibrillators that allow the left and right ventricles to resynchronize so that they no longer beat out of order.
Percutaneous intervention: This is an alternative to coronary artery bypass graft surgery in which interventional cardiologists go through the skin to clear blocked arteries using special wires and catheters.
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR): When the aortic valve stiffens (aortic stenosis) and cannot function correctly, doctors may opt to perform TAVR, if traditional open-heart surgery is considered too risky for the patient. In TAVR, surgeons use a catheter to repair the aortic valve without removing it. The Heart & Vascular Hospital was the first hospital in northern New Jersey to perform TAVR.
Serving patients throughout the tri-state area, Hackensack Meridian Health provides leading-edge heart disease treatment in New Jersey & beyond.
